I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer on May 16, 2012. Since then it has been my passion to help others fighting breast cancer. I am on the board of Power of 2, a non-profit which raises money for Treatment Resistant Breast Cancer Research at UF Cancer & Genetics. In just 3 years our organization has been able to provide the researchers with $48,000 in seed grants.

CAPRI is located off 34th Street just north of 39th Avenue. From 39th Ave. turn left onto NW 44th Place. The clubhouse is at the end of 44th Place. There is a small parking lot. Other parking is on one side of 44th Place, and signs will indicate parking.

Wear your favorite hat and dress! There will be a “Best Hat” contest. There will also be several great items to be raffled, so bring some cash J. Tickets will be $5 each or 3 for $10.

Susan G. Komen South Florida RFA Announcement for 2016-2017

Susan G. Komen® South Florida is proud to announce the release of its RFA (Request

for Application) for services to be provided fiscal year 04/01/2016 to 03/31/2017. Two

separate application releases are being issued – one in the area of Patient Care, and the

other in the area of Breast Health Navigation/Education. Applications for breast cancer

and breast health programs from nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies and

educational institutions in Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties are eligible for

grant funding.

The promise of Komen South Florida is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by

empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the

cures. The organization runs one of the most innovative, responsive grant programs in

breast cancer today. Komen South Florida is proud to have funded over $ 500,000 to

local community programs in 2015/2016 that support breast cancer screening and

treatment programs, as well as education and outreach for the medically underserved in

Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties.

Our grant cycle runs from 04/01/2016 through 03/31/2017. Applications from eligible

entities must be submitted online through the Grants e-Management systems (GeMS):

-      “Countering HPV Vaccination Opposition” is set for 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, September 15^th, sponsored by the National AHEC Organization. This training, conducted by GW Cancer Institute, will include an introduction to and brief history of the anti-vaccine movement, discuss and debunk common vaccine myths and highlight contemporary sources of misinformation, while providing strategies for validating good information and countering misinformation. CE/CME credits will not be offered for the training, however, certificates of attendance can be provided upon request. Clickhere to register.

 

-      “You are the Key to HPV Cancer Prevention”, a live webinar, will take place at 12 p.m. ET on Friday, September 25^th. Susan Vadaparampil, PhD, MPH, from the Moffit Cancer Center will present a general overview of HPV, the benefits of the vaccine and best practices on how to recommend the vaccine to your patients with the “Same Day, Same Way” method. This presentation is provided by a Centers of Disease Control grant provided to the National AHEC Organization. CE/CME credits will be offered for this training. -      If you are unable to attend the training on September 25^th, Suwannee River AHEC also offers an enduring version of the presentation. Kid Support Program for Families Undergoing Cancer Starts 09.17.15

What is it?

Kid Support™ is a peer support group for children who have a parent, grandparent, other family member or friend with cancer (either in treatment or post-treatment), or for children who have cancer themselves.

How does it work?

Developed by Dr. Ann Speltz, educator, breast cancer survivor, parent and author of The Year My Mother Was Bald (Magination Press, 2003), this 10-week group offers children ages 5-12 an opportunity to make friends and learn skills to help them when cancer is in their lives. The program reduces the stress of cancer in the family by teaching communication and relaxation skills, and age-appropriate knowledge of basic cancer concepts.
