The Florida Department of Health Presents - The Cancer Free Florida Webinar Series: Exploring the Connection between Overweight, Obesity and Cancer


Overview

Research has confirmed that being overweight or obese increases the risk for certain cancers. Dr. Tanya Agurs-Collins will provide information about the factors involved with increased cancer risk and overweight and obesity including: the effect of hormones, insulin, metabolic syndrome, and inflammation. She will also provide a review of the biological factors influenced by various dietary choices. Dr. Catherine Howard will share lessons learned from the first year of Florida's Healthiest Weight initiative.

Learning objectives:

  • Identify which cancers are associated with overweight and obesity
  • Understand the biological mechanisms associated with obesity and increased cancer risk
  • Understand the relationship between diet and cancer risk
  • Describe the Healthiest Weight Florida initiative
  • List the five key strategies of Healthiest Weight Florida
