Skin Cancer Prevention Progress Report
One year ago, the Office of the Surgeon General released The Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Prevent Skin Cancer, establishing skin cancer prevention as a public health priority for our nation. The Call to Action described prevention strategies that work and called on all community partners to work together to prevent skin cancer.
On the anniversary of the Call to Action, we are releasing our first annual Skin Cancer Prevention Progress Report. The 2015 Report summarizes prevention efforts and the most recent available data. It also highlights new developments and success stories following the Call to Action. By updating this report annually, we will monitor progress, celebrate and learn from successes, recognize areas that need improvement, and identify opportunities to work with partners in government, health care, education, business, and the community.
We hope this report can serve as a resource for your skin cancer prevention efforts. Please share widely with your partners.
If you have a success story that you would like to be considered for next year’s report, please send it to Erin Garnett at xmi2@cdc.gov.
The Call to Action provided a clear roadmap prevention in the United States, and with the continued effort of partners across all sectors, we can stop the increasing incidence of skin cancers.
